I will probably write a considerable amount about building a house and the little things people should know. There is a lot of time, energy, and money involved in home ownership. The purpose is to be prepared for the little things. You will have to make decisions on materials and colors throughout the process, so having a good game plan can save you a lot of time which relates directly to money when dealing with building.
The first thing that most people underestimate is permitting itself. A very important part of building which can delay projects indefinitely if local bylaws are violated. Special permits can double permitting fees so make sure that you are a conforming lot and your house does not lie close to wetlands. Have a professional civil engineer take a look at the situation before getting started.
The last thing about the house was where I was going to get the mail. I had grown up accustomed to PO boxes and had to make the decision to rent one or install a mailbox. PO boxes have a yearly fee and you have to drive to the box whenever you want the mail. Mailboxes are 100 feet from your door and you can check those bills daily. It’’s a no brainer, mailbox!
