An arrest has been made in the slaying of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair. McNair was murdered on July 4th in his apartment by his mistress Sahel Kazemi, who then turned the gun on herself, committing suicide. The person arrested in connection with the killing is Adrian J. Gilliam Jr., of LaVergne, Tennessee. Gilliam is charged with being a convicted felon in the possession of a firearm. If he is convicted he could face up to 10 years in prison along with a fine of up to $250,000.

Gilliam told officials that he sold the gun used in the McNair slaying to the woman who pulled the trigger, McNair’s mistress. Gilliam was charged and convicted of second degree murder and attempted armed robbery in 1993 in the state of Florida. Gilliam identified the woman via a photo provided by law enforcement officials who arrested him.

“No one denies this is a tragedy,” Gilliam’s public defender Hugh Mundy said. “Steve McNair was one of Nashville’s heroes. A lot of lives have already been ruined. But Mr. Gilliam is a decent, hard-working family man and there’s no reason to ruin his life too.”

Gilliam supposedly sold the gun to Kazemi for $100 because his wife was afraid to have the gun inside their house.  The sale took place outside the restaurant where Kazemi worked and where she first met McNair. The sale went down two days prior to the killing. McNair retired from the NFL last season. He made a name for himself while playing for the Tennessee Titans, leading them to an appearance in the Super Bowl against the Saint Louis Rams.
